Four disciplines, each drawn from established Indian ethical vocabulary, each narrowed here into something a person can actually practise on a Tuesday.
सत्य
Satya
TRUTH
Not only speaking truth — living without contradiction. Honesty about facts is the easy half. The harder half is the elimination of the private exceptions: the position held in public and abandoned in private, the standard applied to others and waived for oneself.
Daily form: say the inconvenient sentence once a day. Notice what it costs and whether the cost was real.
अहिंसा
Ahimsa
NON-HARM
Not only physical — verbal, emotional, ecological. Ahimsa understood widely becomes the most demanding of the four, because it requires knowing what one’s ordinary life actually costs. The traditional emphasis on food, speech and livelihood is not incidental: those are the three places where most harm is transacted invisibly.
